The apparatus () comprises a control means () configured to: determine a state of charge of the energy storage means () that is required at the end of a period in which charging of the energy storage means () by an external charging means () is performable; predict a state of charge of the energy storage means () at the end of the period if a transfer of data were to be performed; and enable the transfer of data to be performed during the period in dependence on the predicted state of charge of the energy storage means () at the end of the period being greater than or equal to the state of charge required at the end of the period.
