An electric drive axle has an electric machine with a rotor shaft, and a transmission including a primary reduction gearset connected to the rotor shaft and comprising a driving gear, and a planetary gear transmission including an outer planetary gearset comprising an outer ring gear, an outer planet carrier and an outer sun gear, and an inner planetary gearset comprising an inner ring gear and an inner sun gear. The outer ring gear is connected to the driven gear and defines the input of the planetary gear transmission. The inner planetary gearset comprises an inner planet carrier defining the output of the planetary gear transmission.
