A method for localizing a vehicle assembly with respect to a ground assembly in a wireless power transfer system is disclosed. The method includes receiving a combined signal comprising (a) a wireless power transfer (WPT) signal and (b) a differential inductive positioning system (DIPS) signal; determining a sampling frequency for the combined signal; determining a sampling phase for the combined signal; extracting the DIPS signal from the combined signal based on the sampling frequency and the sampling phase; and determining the vehicle assembly position relative to the ground assembly based on the extracted DIPS signal.
