ENGINE FOR A TRANSPORT REFRIGERATION UNIT WITH AIR MANAGEMENT VALVE

Disclosed is a transport refrigeration unit (TRU) 12, 100 having: an engine 32, 120 configured to power a refrigeration system 10, 130 of the TRU 12, 100, the engine 32, 100 including an air intake 140, the engine 32, 120 within an engine compartment 110 of the TRU 12, 100; an air management valve (AMV) 210 fluidly coupled to the air intake 140; a first duct 150 fluidly coupled to the AMV 210 and including a first inlet 160 within the engine compartment 110; and a second duct 180 fluidly coupled to the AMV 210 and including a second inlet 190 that is exterior to the engine compartment 110 and is configured to receive atmospheric air; wherein: the AMV 210 is configured to modulate air into the engine 32, 120 from the first duct 150 and the second duct 180, when a temperature of air within the AMV 210 is above the first threshold and the temperature of air within the second duct 180 is below the first threshold, to lower the temperature of air entering the engine 32, 120 to below the first threshold.
