An engine unit comprises an internal combustion engine, comprising a fresh air inlet (12) and a recirculated burnt gas inlet (13) opening upstream of the engine cylinders, characterized in that the fresh air inlet (12) and the burnt gas inlet (13) open into the same rotary spool valve (1) whose outlet (14) is connected to an intake manifold of the engine, the fresh air inlet (12) and the recirculated gas inlet (13) being axially offset from one another along the rotation axis (XX') of the spool (1).
