The invention relates to a side tarp tensioner, comprising a base body (1) having two parallel side cheeks (12), a clamping bracket (2) designed as a single-arm lever, which is pivotably mounted about a first pivot axis running orthogonally between the side cheeks (12) of the base body (1), as well as a hook part (3) for hooking under a stationary holding element serving as an abutment relative to the tarp to be tensioned, which is pivotably mounted about a second pivot axis running between the side cheeks (12) and parallel to the first pivot axis, wherein at least one first locking element is arranged on the clamping bracket (2), which can be locked in the closed position of the clamping bracket (2) with a second locking element arranged on the base body (1), wherein at least one locking element is formed by a spring clip (8) arranged on the clamping bracket (2), which can be locked into at least one locking receptacle arranged on the base body (1).
