A controller for an electrically heated aerosol-generating device (102) comprising a heating element (134) and a rechargeable power supply for powering the heating element (134). The controller is configured to control a supply of power from the power supply to the heating element (134) in dependence on an ambient temperature adjacent the device, and prevent power being supplied to the heating element (134) when the ambient temperature adjacent the device is below a pre-determined lower temperature threshold.
