The present invention relates to an internal combustion engine system (1), in particular for a motor vehicle (2), which comprises an internal combustion engine (3), a fresh air system (4) for supplying the internal combustion engine (3) with fresh air, an exhaust system (5) for discharging exhaust gas produced in the internal combustion engine (3) from the internal combustion engine (3), and an exhaust gas recirculation duct (13) for fluidic connection of the exhaust system (5) with the fresh air system (4). Increased efficiency and/or a simplified structure of the internal combustion engine system (1) is achieved in that an auxiliary duct (16) is provided, which branches off from the exhaust gas recirculation duct (13) and opens into the fresh air system (4) downstream of the exhaust gas recirculation duct (13), wherein a conveying device (18) for conveying fluid flowing through the auxiliary duct (16) is provided in the auxiliary duct (16), and wherein the internal combustion engine system (1) comprises a valve device (22) for selectively connecting the auxiliary duct (16) with the exhaust system (5) and the fresh air system (4) via the exhaust gas recirculation duct (13).
