The present invention relates to a charging and monitoring system for charging a battery-like electrical energy storage device for electric two-wheelers and simultaneous monitoring of the electrical energy storage device, wherein the electrical energy storage device remains permanently mounted on the electric two-wheeler. The system consists of a charging station (1), which comprises at least one charging module (2), and a data carrier (7) mounted on the electric two-wheeler and protected against vandalism, which communicates with a data reading device (8) in the charging module (2) to determine the charging current characteristics and monitor the charging behavior of the electrical energy storage device.
