The present invention discloses a method for monitoring a torsional vibration damper, comprising the steps of: - determining at least one operating and/or environmental parameter of the drive system and/or the torsional vibration damper; - determining a current damage rate based on the at least one operating and/or environmental parameter; - integrating the current damage rate to determine a current damage state of the torsional vibration damper.
