Longitudinal adjuster (1) for a vehicle seat (200) having a seat part (202) and a backrest (204). The longitudinal adjuster (1) has a first seat rail and a second seat rail, wherein the first seat rail is displaceable relative to the second seat rail in a longitudinal direction (x). A memory device associated with the first seat rail and cooperating with the second seat rail is provided, which is configured to store a seat longitudinal position of the vehicle seat (200), which is leavable and resumable through a longitudinal displacement of the vehicle seat (200). The memory device detects a relative movement between the first seat rail and the second seat rail by means of a friction wheel (18), which for this purpose contacts and traces a contact surface (4a) moved relative to the memory device. The friction wheel (18) is acted upon by means of a spring element (32) with a pressing force in the direction of the contact surface (4a), wherein the pressing force during the relative movement between the first seat rail and the second seat rail is increased relative to the pressing force in a state when no relative movement occurs.
