A vehicle is described comprising at least two wheels (3,4) and a hybrid drive system (20) for driving at least one of the wheels. The hybrid drive system (20) comprises at least one electrical generator (6) comprising a generator axle, a pedal-crank drive (11) coupled to the generator axle, at least one electrical drive motor (7) arranged to drive the at least one of the wheels, an energy storage device (8) arranged to store electric energy generated by the electrical generator, and to supply energy to the at least one electrical drive motor. It also comprises a control system (9) comprising a generator current measurement unit to measure a generator current (IGen). The generator current is used to determine a driver input torque applied to the pedal-crank drive. Furthermore, a generator speed measurement unit is arranged to measure a generator angular speed. Also, a generator control unit is arranged to control the electrical generator depending on a target current value (IGen_target). A generator target current calculator is arranged to calculate the target current value (IGen_target). The target current value (IGen_target) is limited between two output limits being a lower output limit and an upper output limit, wherein the control system is arranged to switch at least one of the two output limits between a zero-value and a non-zero value so as to allow the electric generator to generate both driving and regenerative torque if the driver input torque (TDrivar) satisfies a first condition, and to allow the electric generator to generate only regenerative torque if the driver input torque (TDrivar) satisfies a second condition.
