A silencer (50) for a vehicle comprises a noise dampening mesh material (40) and a silencer housing component (10) forming a receptacle for the noise dampening mesh material (40). The silencer housing component (10) comprises an outer wall (20) and an end wall (26). The outer wall (20) extends circumferentially around a center axis (13) of the silencer housing component (10). The end wall (26) forms a concavity (29). A retarding structure (30) comprising at least one wall (31, 32, 33, 34) is arranged in the concavity (29) and projects from the end wall (26). The retarding structure (30) is configured to reduce a rate of gas egress through gas outlet passages of the silencer (50).
