Disclosed is a battery module, which includes a cell assembly having a plurality of battery cells; a module case configured to accommodate the cell assembly and having a gas venting hole provided at one side to allow gas generated from the battery cell to be discharged to the outside; a module terminal electrically connected to the cell assembly and exposed to the other side of the module case; a fireproof cover member configured to cover a top end of the cell assembly to suppress upward discharge of the gas from the battery cell; and a block member configured to partition a space between the cell assembly and one side of the module case to guide the gas toward the gas venting hole.
