Specifically, the negative electrode active material comprises: artificial graphite particles; and a nitrogen element, an oxygen element, and a hydrogen element present on the surface of, inside, or both on the surface of and inside the artificial graphite particles, wherein the content of the nitrogen element is 80 to 180 mg per kg of the negative electrode active material.
