The present disclosure relates to a battery module that includes: a cell stack including a plurality of battery cells stacked in one direction; a module case accommodating the cell stack; a venting hole formed on the module case and configured to discharge gas generated from the battery cell to the outside of the module case; and a cartridge having at least a portion coupled to the module case and configured to release carbon dioxide stored therein toward the venting hole.
