The fuel cell system includes a cell 1 that is capable of generating electric power and includes: a fuel electrode 1a to which hydrogen obtained by reforming fuel gas is supplied; an air electrode 1b to which oxygen in air is supplied; and an electrolyte 1c interposed between the fuel electrode 1a and the air electrode 1b and allowing oxygen ions generated from oxygen in the air supplied to the air electrode to pass through to the fuel electrode. The fuel cell system further includes a water vapor retaining means 6 that is disposed in a flow path of the fuel gas to be supplied to the fuel electrode 1a, retains water vapor generated in the fuel electrode 1a during electric power generation by the cell 1, and allows the water vapor to be mixed with the fuel gas.",
