DYNAMIC EXTERIOR AIRCRAFT LIGHT UNIT AND METHOD OF OPERATING A DYNAMIC EXTERIOR AIRCRAFT LIGHT UNIT

A dynamic exterior aircraft light unit (2), configured for being mounted to an aircraft (100) for illuminating an aircraft environment, includes an LED group (4) with a plurality of LEDs, and an optical system (6) with at least one optical element (8, 9), the optical system being associated with the LED group for shaping an output light intensity distribution from the light emitted by the LED group, wherein the LED group and the optical system are stationary within the dynamic exterior aircraft light unit, with each LED of the LED group having a set position with respect to the optical system, and wherein the dynamic exterior aircraft light unit is configured to be operated in a plurality of operating modes, with a respective subset of the plurality of LEDs being switched on in each of the plurality of operating modes and with a different output light intensity distribution being emitted by the dynamic exterior aircraft light unit in each of the plurality of operating modes, with a selection of the operating mode depending on an acceleration of the aircraft.
