A method of controlling an internal combustion engine is disclosed, the internal combustion engine comprising at least two cylinders, wherein each cylinder comprises at least one fuel injector configured to inject fuel into the cylinder, wherein the method comprises controlling the fuel injection performed by the fuel injectors into the cylinders based on an estimate of a residual gas imbalance between the at least two cylinders.
