A portable orientation aid has an output unit (82) and a reception and control unit (81) connected to the output unit (82), which is configured to detect an electromagnetic signal of a vehicle (2), to decode an individual identification of a door area (4 1 -4 6 ) of the vehicle (2) encoded in the electromagnetic signal, and after decoding the individual identification, to cause the output unit (82) to output a signal that indicates to a passenger waiting for the vehicle the door area (4 1 -4 6 ).
