According to the invention, an electrical battery as an energy storage device supplies the energy for electric passenger compartment air conditioning. A control unit for energy management determines the required electrical energy demand for air conditioning during the rest period (4) based on boundary condition data (2) that influence the air conditioning and are specified by the vehicle or by a driver. In this process, the control unit compares the required energy demand with the current detected energy content of the battery and determines whether the current energy content of the battery available for air conditioning is sufficient for the air conditioning desired and specified by the driver during the rest period (5). If a sufficient energy content of the battery for the desired air conditioning is determined, the battery is discharged in a controlled manner in accordance with the operation of the air conditioning until the end of the rest period.",
