The invention relates to a vehicle seat (2) comprising a seat base (3) and a backrest (5) that can be folded between a functional position in which it serves to support the back of an occupant seated on said seat (2) and a folded position in which it extends in a direction parallel to the seat base (3), said backrest (3) presenting, when in the folded position, an upper face (11) on which two mobile support shelves (13, 14) are secured. According to the invention, each shelf (13, 14) has at least one groove (28, 29), the shelves (13, 14) being able to move from a retracted position in which they rest on the upper face (11) of the backrest (4), to a deployed position in which they are found side by side and project forward from said face (11), said grooves (28, 29) being aligned with one another when the shelves (3, 4) are in the deployed position to form a large-sized support.
