The invention relates to a headrest (1) comprising: a fixed part (3) comprising two rods (4) and a first crossmember (5); a movable part (6) comprising a second crossmember (7), said crossmembers being connected to each other by a large (8) and a small (9) connecting rod; a latch (18) comprising at least one ratcheting tooth (20); a spring means (21); a transverse rack (22) arranged to be able to mesh with said tooth; a spring (23); said latch comprising a radial projection (24) arranged to be able to bear against a first stop (25); a second stop (26) at the inner end of said rack so as to receive said projection in bearing when said second crossmember is brought back to the maximum-rear position, said bearing causing a rotation of said latch from its non-meshing position to its meshing position, so as to allow a new adjustment of the position of said second crossmember.
