Provided is a means capable of suppressing a local reaction of a negative electrode active material due to an electrolyte during charging and discharging and improving a capacity retention ratio of a battery in a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery using a carbon material such as artificial graphite particles for the negative electrode active material. A solution is accomplished by a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery including a negative electrode containing a carbon-based negative electrode active material, an electrolyte layer, and a positive electrode containing a positive electrode active material, and having a tap density of the negative electrode active material of 0.96 g/cc or more.
