A retention flange of a fuel injector extends radially outward therefrom such that the retention flange is disposed within the interior space. A slot extends radially from the interior space to a fuel rail socket exterior surface and a retention groove extends radially outward from the interior space. A retainer includes a first leg extending through the slot and a second leg extending through the slot, the first leg and the second leg being connected to each other at one end by a retainer base. A lobe of the first leg extends into the retention groove and supports the retention flange and a lobe of the second leg extends into the retention groove and supports the retention flange, thereby retaining the fuel injector to the fuel rail socket.",
