In order to be able to use the break-away valve (11) with the same valve body (35) and the same valve body housing (29) for towing vehicles of different designs with brake systems having different hydraulic pressures, an adapter housing (28) with an adapter piston (49) is used according to the invention. The break-away valve (11) can be adapted to different hydraulic brake pressures and/or different brake media of different vehicle types by using adapter pistons (49) with different adapter piston areas (50). The invention is preferably used for towing vehicles, in particular tractors such as agricultural towing vehicles, to which a pneumatically braked trailer is coupled.",
