A secondary lithium battery (100) comprises a housing enclosing an interior space (111) and a composite body (104) arranged in the interior space (111), consisting of at least one positive electrode (105) and at least one negative electrode (106) and at least one separator (112). The housing comprises a metallic housing part (102) with an inner side facing into the interior space (111) and an outer side facing away from the interior space (111), wherein the metallic housing part (102) consists of a first layer (109) made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, which forms the inner side of the metallic housing part (102), and a second layer (110) made of nickel or a nickel alloy, which forms the outer side of the metallic housing part (102). For the manufacture of the battery (100), a foil or a sheet made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy is coated on one side with a layer made of nickel or a nickel alloy. The metallic housing part (102) is then manufactured by forming from the coated foil or from the coated sheet and installed in an assembly process.
