An electrolyte for a lithium metal battery includes a lithium salt, a non-aqueous organic solvent, and a nitrate additive, wherein the lithium salt is different from the nitrate additive, the lithium salt is included in an amount of greater than or equal to 15 mol % based on a total amount (100 mol %) of the electrolyte for the lithium metal battery, and the nitrate additive is included in an amount of greater than or equal to 3 mol % based on a total amount (100 mol %) of the electrolyte for the lithium metal battery.
