A vehicle 10 comprises a kinetic energy recovery system 12 having a flywheel 14 supported for rotation in a vacuum enclosure 18. A first vacuum pumping arrangement 34 evacuates the vacuum enclosure and a second vacuum pumping arrangement 38 of the vehicle evacuates the recovery system. The flywheel is supported for rotation on a common drive shaft 16 with the first vacuum pumping mechanism.
