A gas generator (10) comprises an outer housing, a first combustion chamber and discharge openings (50) for the first combustion chamber (30). All discharge openings (50) of the first combustion chamber (30) are arranged in the outer housing such that they lie on one side of a first plane (72) that contains an axial centerline (66) of the outer housing.
