The present invention relates to a bicycle component (401) for an at least partially muscle-powered bicycle (200) with a shock damper device (100) and a bicycle (200) with such a bicycle component (401) as well as a method for operating a bicycle component (401). The shock damper device (100) comprises a damper device (1) controllable via a control device (60). A detection device (408) is provided with a sensor device (403) for receiving a signal. The sensor device (403) is arranged on at least one component of the bicycle which is pivoted during a steering movement. The detection device (408) is suitable and designed to recognize the road roughness as a function of the detected signal and to control the damper device (1) as a function of the recognized road roughness, such that a damping property of the damper device (1) can be adjusted by a signal from the detection device (408).
