The invention relates to a device and a method for monitoring an air supply system of a rail vehicle, wherein performance-dependent measured values of the air supply system are received from a plurality of measuring instruments (31-34) and evaluated to determine information about a power or energy consumed or supplied by the air supply system. Finally, the information obtained is transmitted from the rail vehicle to a stationary evaluation unit (10) and used there to derive maintenance or optimization information for the air supply system.
