The invention relates to a method and a device for regulating or controlling a semi-active damper device of a motor vehicle, in particular a commercial vehicle. The method comprises the steps: determination of a load acting on the damper device (S1); if the determined load is less than or equal to a predetermined load threshold, setting or maintaining a first damper characteristic (S3); and if the determined load exceeds the predetermined load threshold, maintaining the set first damper characteristic for the duration of a delay time and setting a second damper characteristic that is harder for a driver of the motor vehicle compared to the first setting of the damper device after the delay time has elapsed, if the load acting on the damper device has not fallen below the predetermined load threshold again during the delay time (S4 to S6).
