METHOD AND VEHICLE ILLUMINATION SYSTEM FOR CONTROL OF VEHICLE LIGHTS

Method performed by a vehicle illumination system (100) for controlling the operation of a vehicle illumination unit (170) in order to illuminate objects in a peripheral area (A tot ) surrounding the vehicle. Said method comprising: receiving an initiating signal declaring occurrence of an event, receiving a first signal from a first detection unit (120A) indicating the presence and position of object or objects (O) in a peripheral area (A tot ) surrounding the vehicle, up on the occurrence of an event and communicating an activation signal to the vehicle illumination unit (170) to illuminate said objects (O) with a light having first light characteristics if an object (O) is detected. A vehicle illumination system is also disclosed.
