The present invention relates to an external trim assembly (1) for a motor vehicle, comprising: - at least one air inlet grille (2), the grille (2) comprising an opening and a plurality of decorative elements (9), said decorative elements (9) forming a pattern around the opening of the grille (2), and - a closure element (6) for the opening of the grille (2), the closure element (6) being movable between a locked position in which the closure element (6) is fixed on the grille (2) and masks the opening of the grille (2) and an unlocked position in which the closure element (6) is displaceable relative to the grille (2), the closure element (6) comprising a support and at least one protruding element. The protruding element is attached to the support and has a shape substantially complementary to the pattern.
