A coupling device (26) is provided for a hydrodynamic retarder (2) to connect a rotor shaft (8) of the hydrodynamic retarder (2) with a hydraulic pump (62) that delivers working fluid into a working space (24) formed jointly by a rotor (6) connected in a rotationally fixed manner to the rotor shaft (8) and a stator (4). The coupling device (26) is arranged radially inside the rotor shaft (8).
