Source
Method for omni-orientational wireless energy transfer between a transmitter unit and a receiver unit, the method comprising providing a first electromagnetic resonator including a transmitter coil coupled to a power supply to transmit power through a magnetic flux, and placing a second electromagnetic resonator at an operating distance from the first electromagnetic resonator, the second electromagnetic resonator including a receiver coil coupled to an electrical load, wherein the receiver coil forms an outline of a non-degenerate two-dimensional surface having at least one portion concave toward the transmitter coil, and wherein the portion is configured to transfer the magnetic flux between the electromagnetic resonators at the operating distance. Corresponding implantable receiver unit comprising a non-planar electromagnetic resonator including said receiver coil configured to receive a magnetic flux in a range of directions from an external transmitter unit at an operating distance. Omni-orientational wireless energy transfer system including the receiver unit and a transmitter unit to wirelessly transfer energy to the receiver unit, the transmitter unit comprising a transmitter coil to direct the magnetic flux in the range of directions at the operating distance from the receiver unit and a power supply coupled to the transmitter coil.
