A start switch device 1 includes: a biometric information sensor 2 for detecting contact of an operating finger 9 with respect to a reading surface 20, and for reading biometric information 23 of the operating finger 9; an illuminating unit 4 having at least one light source; and a control unit 6 which indicates that reading of the biometric information 23 is complete, by means of an illumination pattern obtained by combining lighting and extinguishing of the at least one light source.
