A control apparatus (220) for an automotive lamp (200), comprising an image processing unit (221) structured to receive initial image data (IMG1) captured by a camera (210), to generate intermediate image data (IMG2) that corresponds to the initial image data, and to generate light intensity control data that determines a light intensity distribution (PTN) to be provided by the automotive lamp (200) based on the intermediate image data (IMG2), wherein an effective number of gradations to be used in the intermediate image data (IMG2) is determined for each pixel such that it is smaller than a number of gradations used in the initial image data (IMG1) when a pixel value of the corresponding pixel of the initial image data is within a predetermined range (RNG).
