MATERIAL-HANDLING VEHICLE HAVING A BATTERY RETENTION DEVICE

A battery-retention system employs a retention jaw assembly (90) and a battery-retention mechanism (100) to secure a battery (20) within a battery compartment (24) of a material-handling vehicle (26). The retention jaw (52) includes a battery-contact portion (102) operatively associated with a barrier portion (104) that is movable between a battery-retention position (106) when the battery contacts the battery-contact portion (102) and a battery-release position (54) when the battery (20) does not contact the battery-contact portion (102). The battery-retention mechanism (100) includes a stopper block (150) that is operable to be positioned within the battery compartment (24) when the battery compartment door (50) is in a closed position (56) and operable to be positioned external to the battery compartment (24) when the battery compartment door (50) is in an open position (82, 84).
