SYSTEM FOR RETROFITTING A POWER GENERATION SYSTEM TO INCORPORATE CLUTCHLESS SYNCHRONOUS CONDENSING

A system includes a clutchless synchronous condensing coupling (16) configured to couple a turbine shaft (52) of a gas turbine system (12) to a generator shaft (64) of a synchronous generator (14) of a power generation system (10). The clutchless synchronous condensing coupling (16) includes a first coupling portion (87) configured to couple to the turbine shaft (52), and a second coupling portion (91) configured to couple to the generator shaft (64). The clutchless synchronous condensing coupling (16) is configured to allow the power generation system (10) to operate in an active power mode and a reactive power mode without a clutch assembly (13).
