A method of manufacturing a secondary battery includes preparing an electrode assembly that includes a first electrode including an electrode tab, a second electrode, and a separator, inserting the electrode assembly into a case that includes an opening configured to expose an upper surface of the electrode assembly, preparing a cap assembly that includes a cap plate having a conduction hole, a terminal plate on an upper portion of the cap plate and configured to be electrically connected to the electrode tab through the conduction hole, and a breakable degassing member between the cap plate and the terminal plate and having an empty space formed therein, coupling the case and the cap assembly, and performing a degassing step in which the degassing member is broken such that gas inside the case is discharged to an outside of the case.
