DETERMINING REPRESENTATIVE VEHICLE PATHS THROUGH A ROAD NETWORK

A method (300) of determining representative vehicle paths along a sequence of road segments of a road network, a processing system (134) configured to carry out the method, and software having instructions which, when executed, cause the processing system (134) to carry out the method (300). For each of the road segments, at least one respective segment-specific route index is determined for each of plurality of vehicle traces. The segment-specific route index is selected from a predetermined set of route indices for the road segment, and each index corresponds to a different set of possible routes along the road segment. This determines a respective sequence of route indices for each of the vehicle traces. The vehicle traces are partitioned into groups based similarities between the sequences of route indices. For each of the groups of vehicle traces, a representative vehicle path is determined along the sequence of road segments.
