An apparatus for managing a battery may include a measurement module configured to measure state information of the battery, a first diagnosis module configured to diagnose whether the battery is abnormal by comparing the state information measured by the measurement module with a first diagnosis criterion, and a second diagnosis module configured to diagnose whether the battery is abnormal based on a change amount of the state information measured by the measurement module.
