Systems and methods of use thereof for safe and reliable operation of battery systems are disclosed. One such battery implementation includes a battery for supplying current to a device, comprising: a housing; one or more battery cores disposed in the housing; and a battery management system (BMS) electrically connected to the one or more battery cores and configured to: receive a signal selected from a group consisting of (a) a termination signal from a control unit of a device to which the battery is adapted to supply power, (b) a power-off signal from a power switch of the device, and (c) an absence of an in-place signal received within a predetermined period of time, indicating the battery is not connected to the device; and configure the battery cores to stop supplying current at an operating voltage to the device.
