Disclosed is an acoustic detection system (100) for a vehicle (200). The vehicle (200) comprises one or more acoustic sensors (210, 212, 214, 216) configured to sense perceptible acoustic waves (10, 12) in an environment of the vehicle (200) and to produce acoustic sensor data. The system is characterized by a reception module (110), configured to receive the acoustic sensor data, and a detection module (120), configured to detect, in the acoustic sensor data, an event on or around the vehicle (200).
