A method (400) for assignment of vehicle control includes receiving (402), by one or more processors associated with a vehicle (10), route data indicating a route between a starting location of a vehicle (10) and a destination location, and determining (404), by the one or more processors, a vehicle travel configuration for the route based on the route data. The method further includes receiving (406), by the one or more processors, a driver requested torque value and determining (408), by the one or more processors, a passive pedal torque value based on the route data and vehicle powertrain data. The method further includes selectively assigning (410), by the one or more processors, control of the vehicle (10) to a vehicle system (100) or to a driver of the vehicle (10) based on the driver requested torque value and the passive pedal torque value.
