METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR GLOW PLUG OPERATION

There are described methods (600) and systems (300) for operating a glow plug (200). The method (600) comprises monitoring a glow plug current (I); applying a nominal voltage (V) to the glow plug (200) when the glow plug current (I) is between an upper threshold (I) and a lower threshold (I) that is less than the upper threshold (I); applying a second voltage (V) that is more than the nominal voltage (V) to the glow plug (200) when the glow plug current (I) exceeds the upper threshold (I); and applying substantially no voltage to the glow plug (200) when the glow plug current (I) falls below the lower threshold (I).
