A driving assistance apparatus (10) that includes a brake operation portion (13) that applies a brake to a vehicle, the brake operation portion (13) allowing a manual brake operation by a hand of a driver of the vehicle, the brake operation portion (13) including a brake operation body (15) and a grip portion (16) to be gripped by the hand of the driver (D), the grip portion (16) being provided at an upper end of the brake operation body (15), and a first shift-down switch (23b) that shifts-down the vehicle is provided on the grip portion (16), the first shift-down switch (23b) allowing a manual shift-down operation by the hand of the driver (D).
