The present invention relates to a method for recovering used alkaline and/or saline batteries, optionally with added used NiMH accumulators, as well as a device for recovering used alkaline and/or saline batteries, optionally with added used NiMH accumulators, said device comprising: - a metal melting furnace; - a system for loading used batteries; - a system for stirring the liquid metal bath in the tank; - a system for drawing off slag from the surface of the liquid metal bath; - a gas oxidation system; - a system for treating oxidized gases in the vault of the furnace.
